Drawing 101 - Class Description

 

 

Level: 1, Age Requirements: 9 – Up, Format: Classroom, Prerequisites: None,
Instructor Permission Required: No

 

This class is a requirement for all beginning students.

 

DESCRIPTION:
During the first few weeks students work on exercises that develop the right side of the brain in learning how to see artistically. The rest of the term will be spent copying a Masters black & white picture and possibly a landscape.

OBJECTIVES:
To learn to see artistically and create a well composed picture.

SUPPLIES:
Supplies are taken out of the school supply fees.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Every student will be expected to practice basic weekly exercises that may
take ten minutes a week.  Students present at our Art Exhibit at the end of
the term.

REGULAR SCHOOL HOURS:
Check schedule to determine time of class. Students are responsible for
showing up on time.  Work will take place during regular class hours.

CODE OF CONDUCT:
Students will not be graded (unless in college); however, they will be evaluated on their
ability to complete in-class assignments.

HOW TO SUCCEED:

Have a desire to learn to draw, have a teachable attitude and practice the given exercises.

In order to move on to Drawing 201 student must demonstrate ability to:
1. Work independently.
2. Draw an accurate representation of the picture being copied.
3. Exhibit good understanding of contrast in their work.
