DESCRIPTION:

Lyrical teaches the basics of dance movement.  The class will include warm-up, arm work, foot and leg work, basic contract & release theory, basic catch & release theory, travelling work, and stationary work.  Students will learn touches of modern, hip hop, and ballet movements included in lyrical dancing.  Students will learn at least one full dance that they will perform as a part of the Fall/Spring Revue.

OBJECTIVES:

To begin to learn the basics of movement, dance technique, and performance value, and to discover the fun that dance can be!

SUPPLIES:

No supplies needed except a good attitude and willingness to move!  If desired, jazz or ballet shoes may make the experience more enjoyable.  Black pants (not jeans) will be needed for the Revue at the end of the term.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Each student will participate in at least one dance to be performed at the end of the term Revue.

REGULAR SCHOOL HOURS:

Check schedule to determine time of class. Students are responsible for showing up on time and making work up outside of class.

CODE OF CONDUCT:

Students will not be graded (unless in college); however, they will be evaluated by their attitude, participation level, ability to follow directions and complete the work required.

HOW TO SUCCEED:

To be successful in this class, students need to retain some of the steps learned over the term as well as perform their dance at the end of the term without the help of the instructor.  The greatest success will be found in doing their best and enjoying it!
