Novel Writing - Class Description

Level: 201, Age Requirements: 15 & Up, Format: Classroom; Lab/Computer (outside of class time), Instructor Permission Required: No

 

DESCRIPTION:

This class will teach students the steps to create a novel – from first idea to outlining to plots. It will also focus on story and character development. Everything you need to know in what it takes to write a novel.

 

OBJECTIVES:

Students will leave this class with at least a basic outline of their novel idea. 

SUPPLIES:

Students should bring a folder to keep their paperwork handouts and log sheets. They also need to bring a notebook for in-class writing assignments and note taking.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Students will be required to log weekly hours, which will represent a significant portion of their grade/evaluation. 

 

REGULAR SCHOOL HOURS:

Check schedule to determine time of class. Students are responsible for showing up on time and making work up outside of class. There will be outside class time needed to complete writing assignments.

 

CODE OF CONDUCT:

Students will be graded if enrolled in our College program; Those in our Foundational Studies program will be evaluated; both will be graded/evaluated on their ability to follow directions, put in required lab hours and complete assignments.

 

HOW TO SUCCEED:

To be successful in this class, students need to be open to discussion in what they write. And to remember that the most effective way of becoming a successful writer is to just write, write, write!
