Pen & Ink 101 - Class Description

LEVEL: Int/Adv    Requirements:  Drawing 201 completion.  

 

DESCRIPTION:

This is an introduction to pen & ink class, a precursor to the current Pen & Ink 201.  Students’ drawing skills will be greatly enhanced as they come to understand the value and depth of expression that can be achieved through drawing with pen.  Students will become familiar with various pen techniques and styles through the copying of pen & ink illustrations. 

  

OBJECTIVES:
 Students will get familiarized with basic pen & ink skills. 

 

 SUPPLIES:

Micron Brand ink pen sizes 005, 03, 05 or the Micron pack of 6 pens (size 005, 01, 02, 03, 05, 08).  Prismacolor pens are also an option.  Note:  These same pens can also be used for the next level of Pen & Ink

Pen & Ink 201 - Class Description

 

Level: Intermediate, Age Requirements: All, Format: Classroom, Prerequisites:  Drawing 201

 

DESCRIPTION:

The beginning of the semester will focus on copying several drawings done with pen and ink, and move into drawing still life, and interpreting photographs into pen and ink. The class will further your knowledge of various techniques. We touched on it in Drawing 201, but will further develop your speed and technique. We will be studying the styles of old masters as well as more modern works.

 

OBJECTIVES:

The goal of this class is for you to leave with a style that you have mastered.

 

SUPPLIES:

-Micron Brand ink pen sizes 005, 03, 05 or purchase the pack of 6 pens (size 005, 01, 02, 03, 05, 08). These are my preferred pens, but Prisma color pens of comprable sizes are fine.
-Strathmore Bristol Board smooth 9x12.
-Based on interest, we might explore the use of traditional pen and ink with nibs. If so, they are fairly inexpensive.

Students will need to purchase a piece of 16x20 Illustration paper for the final project, which should cost around $4-$5. They can purchase it directly from the instructor, Anna Harrison. She will let her class know a couple weeks in advance of the day they need to bring money. 

 

REGULAR SCHOOL HOURS:

Check schedule to determine time of class. Students are responsible for showing up on time and making work up outside of class.

 

CODE OF CONDUCT:

Students will be graded if in college; those not in college will be evaluated by their ability to follow directions and complete the work required.

Zen Tangles - Class Description

 

Level: Beginning through Intermediate: Age Requirements: All, Format: Classroom, Prerequisites: Drawing 101 required, Drawing 201 preferred.

 

DESCRIPTION:

The beginning of the semester will focus on copying several Pen Strokes and Techniques. Shapes and drawings will be done with pen and ink. Then we move into drawing still life, and interpret photographs into pen and ink or doodlles and tangles. This method encourages and trains right brain art work. We touched on the still life in Drawing 201, but will further develop your speed and technique. The intermediate class will be studying the styles of old masters as well as more modern works.

 

OBJECTIVES:

The goal of this class is for you to leave with an illustrative style that you can imploy to most of you art work.

 

SUPPLIES:

-Micron Brand ink pen sizes 005, 03, 05 or purchase the pack of 6 pens (size 005, 01, 02, 03, 05, 08). These are  preferred pens, but Prisma color pens of comprable sizes are fine.
-Strathmore Bristol Board smooth 9x12.
For those who use/have Copic Pens or similar brush pens,you may want to bring Copic Paper Products.

Check schedule to determined time of class. Students are responsible for showing up on time older student can make up work up outside of class.
