Each student will learn about and experiment with color, mixing, washes, and various techniques and tools. Students will do several small projects, including a color wheel, stained glass window paintings, monochromatic designs, and paintings of fruits or vegetables. In addition, students will have the opportunity to do a final project that utilizes their favorite techniques.
Students will learn the basics of watercolor painting as they experiment with color and tools.

Watercolor Paper - Please purchase a 9”x12” (or similar size) pad of cold press watercolor paper. “Strathmore” is a good brand.
Paint: red, blue, yellow and black (or dark gray) watercolor tube paint (Student-grade tube paints are usually not very expensive, and will work fine for this class. Older students might consider purchasing more expensive paint, as the paint quality increases with the price.)
Brushes: a #6 or #8 round watercolor brush, and a 1/2” flat watercolor brush
The rectangle mixing palette works best:
Please do not purchase the round (flower) palette as it is difficult for mixing colors:
Masking tape (Please do not bring blue masking tape. Tan or white tape is much better!)
Black permanent fine tip pen (either a fine-tip Sharpie, or a .03 or .05 black Micron pen)
Plastic water container

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Students will learn how watercolor paint behaves and how to create fun, beautiful effects.
REGULAR SCHOOL HOURS:
Check schedule to determine time of class. Students are responsible for showing up on time. Students are responsible to make up missed work outside of regular class hours.
CODE OF CONDUCT:
Students will not be graded (unless in College); however they will be evaluated through their level maturity and cooperation. Help in setting up and cleaning the room after class is expected. Each student is responsible for his or her own area.
HOW TO SUCCEED:
Come to class ready to learn and have fun! Students should be willing to listen to instruction, try new things, make mistakes, and practice!
